In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Natalie Portman denied rumors that she would be appearing in DC Entertainment’s upcoming tentpole movies, Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot and Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”.
When asked about Superman, Portman stated, “What is that? (laughs) No, I haven’t heard anything.”
And whether she will appear in the next Batman film; Portman said, “Oh, I don’t know anything about that.”

So it was Christmas. And what did you get? Another year older. And deeper in debt. A very Merry Christmas. And a happy New Year. We want you to join us. On line for “Green Lantern”.

Elsewhere in the DCU, the coming of 2011 means film-makers are on the verge of making us believe jewelry can fly. “Green Lantern” hits movie screens in July and stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris. Reynolds has some great alliteration in his name – it’s as if he was born to play a comic book character or two. Peter Parker. Clark Kent. Ryan Reynolds.

Also this summer, the next “Superman” film starts filming in Vancouver. Vancouver played host to another little Superman project, it was the home filming location for TV’s “Smallville” for 10 years. If the film is being rushed into production by Warner Legal to maximize profits on the movie and minimize sharing among the wives and children of former Superman creators, is it possible that the Lois and/or Clark/Superman roles may be difficult to fill as they have historically been, and that the Director may then need last minute actors to fill in the casting blanks? Wouldn’t it be great if there were two actors with experience already in Vancouver ready to go in those roles? Oh that’s right, there are.

Lois Lane is a role that has a history of being reprised by the same actress in a different incarnation. Noel Neill portrayed Lois in the 1948 movie serial “Superman” and the 1950 sequel “Atoman versus Superman”. She then reprised the role beginning with the second season of TV’s “The Adventures of Superman”. In addition, actress Joan Alexander played the voice of Lois Lane on the “Adventures” radio show, in the 1940 Fleischer cartoons, and then one more time on the 1966 “Superman” Filmation cartoon. Depending on the actor she plays against in the CK role, I think Erica Durance has really taken to Lois and could transcend “Smallville” continuity. Start the groundswell.

Speaking of “Smallville” continuity, they’re engaged! Congratulations Lois and Clark! Now that’s how you ring in a super new year even if it does defy all previous continuity.

“Superman II’ airs on Encore Thursday 12/30 at 8:20 AM then Saturday 1/1 on Encore Action at 4:230 AM and 11:45 AM.

“Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” airs Sunday on Retro TV at 3:10 PM and Monday at 8::50 AM; the fourth in the Chris Reeve franchise airs Saturday at 7:05 AM on Encore Action.

“Superman: The Movie” airs Monday at 5:30 PM on Retro TV and Saturday on Encore Action at 7:35 AM.

Monday at 3 AM catch 1983’s “Superman III” on Encore Action.

“Krypto the Superdog” drops reruns on Boomerang weekdays at 9:30 AM.

Welcome to the 79th episode of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast! This podcast has a simple premise; examine just about every Superman comic published between Man of Steel #1 in 1986 to Adventures of Superman #649 in 2006 in an informative and hopefully entertaining format.

Part index. Part commentary. Part history lesson. All podcast.

Mike and Jeff are back with the last episode of 2010 and even though they recorded this one on the day before Christmas Eve the Superman books they discuss have an August 1991 cover date. In SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #2 we meet Sgt. Belcher and Rorc, two minions of Cerberus. They continue Cereberus’ attack on Lexcorp and threaten reign down destruction on the city if their demands are not met. Then, in SUPERMAN #58, Cadmus, through the Bloodhounds, capture Superman. It seems that the director of Cadmus believes Superman to be a threat and boy is Superman peeved about that. Finally in FLASH #53 Superman and the Wally West Flash have to save Jimmy Olsen from a madman. Add to that Jeffrey’s elsewhere in the real world and you have a full episode of FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS.

Next week: August 1991 continues with ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #481, ACTION COMICS #668 and ADVENTURES OF SUPERBOY #19.

You can subscribe to the show in two ways. First there is the RSS Feed and there is also the iTunes link. You can also download the episode directly.

If you want to comment on the show or contact the hosts you can always private message Mike and Jeff, leave comments here or email them at fromcrisistocrisis@gmail.com. All questions, concerns, fears, trepidations and cheap shots are welcome.

A print of the Andy Warhol painting “Superman” was among nearly half a dozen pieces of art by Roy Lichtenstein and Warhol stolen from a New York City apartment by burglars who broke through a wall.
The “Superman” print is part of his 1980s “Myths” series featuring fictional characters with mass-cultural appeal, including Mickey Mouse and Uncle Sam.
Thieves also lifted a Carl Fudge oil painting, “Live Cat”, and other valuables in the heist which authorities estimate happened sometime during Thanksgiving week, when owner and art collector Robert Romanoff was away.
