This week’s column begins not with a bang but with a whimper – my apology for failing to do last week’s column. Those of you looking for your “Superman on TV” fix turned to the Superman Homepage last weekend and found . . . nothing. Columns don’t just disappear, what do you think happened to it? It could be any number of a million reasons. My dog ate it, I had the BP oil-covered bird flu, I had surgery on my cataracts. I mean, look at the columns around us. Is it really that hard to believe?

Ya I guess it is that hard. The excuse, such as it is, is I spent most of last weekend posting updates from Comic-Con from our crack reporters Jeffrey Bridges and Ivan Jaime. In particular, Jeffrey covered “Superman: The Man of Tomorrow” panel and Ivan covered the “Smallville” panel. They both did top-notch work as usual – thanks guys.

And speaking of “Smallville”, who isn’t speaking of “Smallville” following their season 10 video preview, panel, and post-panel interviews? We now know a lot we didn’t before San Diego. Spoiler Alert, spoiler alert.

At the Television Critic’s Association press tour, Entertainment President of the CW Dawn Ostroff told reporters that the network is considering adapting another DC Comics superhero for television after Smallville wraps up it’s final season.
“We have started to talk about if there are other DC comic book adaptations,” she revealed. “We haven’t picked anything else up to develop yet, [but] we would like to see something on the air, so we’re going to work on it.”
A spinoff from Smallville is also a possibility.

In a recent interview with The Flickcast, Tom Welling talked about Clark Kent finally stepping up and becoming Superman on the upcoming final season of Smallville.
“Yeah, that’s the plan. I don’t know how they’re going to do it, but I know that inevitably, that’s where we get to.”
“[The Superman costume] looks good,” added Welling. “I wasn’t there when they shot it on set. I was actually on another stage shooting something else. But I know what it looks like.”

Noel Neill’s good friend and biographer Larry Thomas Ward has updated us with very good news on Noel’s condition after she suffered a broken hip from a fall:
I am happy to report that Noel is doing much better today.
For the first couple days after she was in the hospital with her broken hip, she was confused and in a lot of pain. That pain has now subsided and she has been transferred to a quiet, private physical rehab facility in an undisclosed location. Apparently her reputation arrived prior to her arrival, so the staff is treating her like royalty, and she’s soaking it all up. She is not happy being there, though, because she knows she has a long and stressful road ahead of her. Because of the nature of her break, the fragility of her bones, and her age, she cannot put any weight on her hip for at least 6 weeks. It’s going to be a long recovery process, and that frustrates her. It doesn’t help that Noel isn’t exactly the ideal patient, as she always prefers to do things her way, but they’re trying to work around her cantankerousness.
The good news is that Noel Neill is expected to make a full and complete recovery, with the entire process taking perhaps as long as three months.
